Local Authority Work

Turn Budget Cuts into Greener Opportunities

Partnership working with RePollinate and trusted funders offers local authorities practical and creative ways to respond to the challenges of reduced planting budgets, while at the same time helping to meet environmental obligations.

Bee Beds Bloom in Angus.

Working in partnership with Balfour Beatty, SSEN and Angus Council, RePollinate designed a network of Bee Beds across the region, connecting communities and creating more spaces for pollinators to thrive.

The collaboration

 Rooted in Community.

This two-year project saw bee beds established in Brechin, Edzell, Kirriemuir and Arbroath. Working in consultation with community groups in each area, the beds were designed to accommodate local conditions and the aesthetic and maintenance requirements of the local community caring for the beds.

Clackmannanshire

Clackmannanshire Council

With funding from NatureScot, Clackmannanshire Council commissioned RePollinate to create a network of pollinator-friendly planting areas across the county.

Across the county

Seven new Bee Beds in everyday community spaces.

Seven new areas of perennial planting were created in Sauchie Main Street, Tillicoultry, Alva Glen and Alloa Town Centre, transforming around 200m² of largely urban space. Designed to appeal to both people and pollinators, the carefully selected plants provide valuable sources of nectar and pollen for pollinators, while bringing colour, seasonal interest and biodiversity into everyday community spaces.

Working together

Designed and delivered in partnership with the community.

The project was shaped and delivered alongside local groups including Sauchie Community Association, Tillicoultry Wildlife Group (TWIG), Wee County Veterans, WellBEEing Alloa and the Alva Glen Heritage Trust. Working with us, they helped turn underused spaces into vibrant places where people and nature can thrive side by side.

Connected habitats

A network of wildlife-friendly stepping stones.

The seven sites also form a network of wildlife-friendly stepping stones, helping to connect fragmented habitats and support pollinators as they move through Clackmannanshire.

Supported by Clackmannanshire Council’s Ranger Service, Land Services, Energy & Sustainability Team and Community Payback Team, with additional support from TCV, the project demonstrates how focused partnership working, combined with RePollinate’s ecological expertise and delivery experience, can make a meaningful difference — creating greener, more welcoming places while giving nature more space to thrive in busy places.

RePollinate has been a valued partner throughout the recent Beds for Bees project. They’ve provided expert advice, communicated clearly and been very responsive whenever support was needed. We’ve found them to be professional, reliable and easy to work with, and we look forward to working with them again in the future.

Falkirk Council case study

Beds for Bees across Falkirk

In 2023 and 2024, RePollinate was commissioned by Falkirk Council under a public contract to work with community groups to develop mixed native and non-native Beds for Bees projects across 17 sites in the Falkirk area.

Denny Old Parish Church

This planting design responded to the community group’s preference for low maintenance, while shorter-growing plants were selected to complement the setting while maintaining clear views of the church from the road.

Grangemouth Town Centre

A low-maintenance, high-impact planting scheme was designed to transform the edge of a town-centre car park. A vibrant mix of plants brings colour, seasonal interest and biodiversity to an otherwise functional urban space. Planted and managed by local community group: The Glitter Team.

Dunmore Village

A diverse planting scheme was created for Dunmore Village Association that incorporated existing plants while introducing new species to enhance seasonal interest and provide high-quality forage for local butterflies.

Bonnybridge, Falkirk

A naturalistic planting scheme in a well-used, centrally located park in Bonnybridge. Originally established in 2020 to replace former annual bedding, the scheme was enhanced in 2023 by filling planting gaps and increasing plant diversity. A carefully selected range of plants was introduced to add colour, vibrancy and seasonal interest, all of them attractive to pollinators. The project was supported by the local community group, Bonnybridge Community Council.

Bespoke planting designs, plant purchase and delivery, working alongside groups, and drawing up preparation and maintenance plans. Efficient and responsive to agreed deadlines and budgets.
